8th Annual ECA for IWS Tour
June 22-24, 2018
San Pedro, California
Plans for the 2018 ECA for IWS Tour are almost complete! The Tour Schedule page will provide ongoing updates for times, locations, etc. as the tour weekend approaches.
The Friday night gathering dinner tradition continues with a no-host dinner at a local restaurant. This informal gathering provides the opportunity for friends - new and old - to meet and enjoy a casual meal together.
A busy Saturday awaits! Early risers may want to make a positive impact with a beach clean up at Cabrillo Beach. Not only will we do our part to improve the local marine environment, we'll also learn about our human impact on the oceans and waterways. After gathering at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels San Pedro, our group will take the short walk to Cabrillo Marine Aquarium to meet and learn about some of the creatures that are Catalina bald eagle favorites, including bright orange garibaldi along with many other kelp fish species like the fascinating sheephead. Reach into the aquarium's tidepool collection to touch starfish and sea anemone. Check out the always interesting aquatic nursery, home to numerous local Southern California marine species. We'll also head out to the beach to investigate the amazing biodiversity of the local tidepools while gazing "26 miles across the sea" toward Santa Catalina Island, our Sunday destination.
Sunday morning begins early as we travel together aboard the Catalina Express to Catalina Island! Upon our arrival on the island, we'll make the short walk to Avalon's famous Green Pier where Captain John King welcomes us aboard the 49-foot power catamaran Catallac to view eagle territories and island marine life from the water. Snacks provided on board. The afternoon is free for you to explore Avalon. Plan to stay longer? Catalina Express will change your return ticket for a small fee provided seats are available for later departures.
