Birds Up Close and Personal
July 27-29, 2018
Join other bird enthusiasts for a very special weekend program based in Wausau, Wisconsin. Plans for this special weekend are almost finished! The Tour Schedule page will provide final updates for times, locations, etc. as the tour weekend approaches.
The events begin on Friday evening with a no-host dinner at a local Wausau restaurant. It's always exciting to meet one another for the first time as we kick off the weekend together.
Saturday promises to be a truly unforgettable day as we board a charter bus to travel to Raptor Education Group, Inc. (REGI) in Antigo, Wisconsin. Upon arrival, we'll be greeted by REGI founder Marge Gibson and her staff, then treated to an up close and intimate look at the rehabilitation work that takes place at REGI on a daily basis throughout the year. Experience all the sights and sounds of this internationally renowned avian rehabilitation center and learn about the environmental challenges to Wisconsin's native and migratory bird species.
After our tour we'll enjoy a picnic lunch and then hone our avian appreciation skills with an art lesson using the REGI education birds as our living models. Yes, you CAN learn to draw a bird! A local art teacher will be our skilled guide as we put pencil to paper in a relaxed atmosphere. What an art show we'll have once we're finished!
The charter bus will return us to Wausau in time for your late afternoon activities and dinner plans.
Sunday afternoon we'll visit the award winning Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum which features nature in many of its exhibits. A true Wausau cultural gem, the visit will allow ample time for strolling through the outdoor sculpture garden as well as the indoor exhibits of this intimate museum.
Your departure from the museum signals the end of the weekend as say our goodbyes and take away incredible memories of new friendships and unforgettable avian experiences.
